| The first lighthouse in North America, Boston Light, is located on Little Brewster Island in Boston Harbor. It is said to be "The Ideal American Lighthouse". Jim Shore's stunning figurine shows the Boston Light at its current-day height of 98 feet.
Boston Light is estimated to have been 50 feet tall when built in 1716. It was rebuilt in 1783, and a variety of times thereafter. Boston Harbor was deep and spacious and was considered to be the commercial center of America in the colonial days and was essential for the ever growing shipping traffic. Boston Light is the only lighthouse which still retains an official keeper and its beacon can be seen for 27 miles.
